Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The primary purpose of the Office of Student Financial Aid and University Scholarships is to assist students and families in securing the financial resources necessary to attend college. The major activities of the communications arm of financial aid and scholarships include creating, managing, and updating all communications and marketing materials to assist students and families in completing required applications and meeting eligibility guidelines for various financial aid and scholarship programs available to Appalachian students.

This role, the Senior Assistant Director of Communications & Marketing for Financial Aid and University Scholarships, leads the development and integration of timely communication and marketing to support financial aid compliance, financial aid transparency and accessibility, timely and helpful communications, and up-to-date website presence using the University's available platforms (Banner, Slate, and Web-based services). This also includes collaborating with the EM communications team and coordinating efforts with the University Communications Division.

  • Manage communication campaigns, plans, workflows, and related tasks in order to achieve enrollment goals.
  • Manage a call center staff of five.
  • Work with Financial Aid and University Scholarships as well as Enrollment Management to identify and address communication needs in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Conduct annual communications and media audits to keep communications relevant, upbeat, and timely.
  • Create and/or update all recruitment and informational materials for open houses, recruitment events, pop-up workshops, FAFSA nights, and other outreach events.
  • Write compelling and effective messaging to encourage completion of requirements and timely disbursement of all financial aid and scholarship funds.
  • Create and edit email and communications, including annual reviews and updates to all standard communications.
  • Manage basic updates to web pages and online platforms.
  • Assist in social media strategies.
  • Manage Ocelot Chat Bot, Scala, and other digital signage to provide App State-customized and branded information while keeping the information provided current, timely, accessible, and fun.
  • Provide data and analytical information on the success of email and text campaigns, phone traffic, etc., to gauge effectiveness and need.
  • Other duties as assigned.
